The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has recently approved the Moshood Abiola Stadium located in Abuja and the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo as the official home venues for the Nigerian national football team, also known as the Super Eagles, during their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matches.
PostNgr gathered that this decision comes as the Super Eagles, led by coach Jose Peseiro, currently hold the top position in Group B with six points after winning their first two games against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.
The Super Eagles will soon resume their journey in the AFCON qualifiers as they gear up to face fellow West Africans, Guinea-Bissau, in a doubleheader next month. On the other hand, 24 other countries must play their home games at a neutral venue due to unapproved home grounds.
North African giants, Egypt and Algeria, hold the highest number of approved stadia with six and five, respectively.
Meanwhile, the 2023 AFCON tournament is set to be held in Cote d’Ivoire. This event promises to bring together the best teams from all over Africa to compete for the coveted title of African champion.
