Federal Court in Abuja Schedules March 30th Hearing for Biafra Referendum Suit Filed by Northern Coalition

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has taken legal action, filing a suit with the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking a referendum to determine the fate of Biafra and other self-determination movements. The lawsuit was originally scheduled to be heard on Friday, but was postponed.

The CNG is asking the court to force the National Assembly and the Attorney General of the Federation to halt the ongoing constitutional review and conduct a referendum to determine the definition of Nigeria and its population.

In a related development, the counsel for the Ibom Nation People’s Movement, Adesina Oke, stated that they are joining the lawsuit in the hopes of securing self-determination for their ethnic group.

He emphasized that the Ibom people have a rich history and that many resources are within their territory, but few are integrated into the Nigerian system. He emphasized the peaceful nature of their cause and the hope that the court will side with their argument for self-determination.
