Rema, the Nigerian superstar, has achieved another significant milestone as his international hit single ‘Calm Down’ becomes eligible for platinum certification.

On February 3rd, 2023, Chart Data, a chart news platform, announced that the single had achieved this status in the United Kingdom.

Initially released on February 11, 2022, as one of the lead singles from his debut album ‘Rave & Roses,’ ‘Calm Down’ quickly became a domestic hit before gaining traction globally. With over a billion streams on various platforms, it has enjoyed enormous digital success, and the accompanying music video holds the record for the most viewed Afrobeats video on YouTube.

The single gained even more popularity with a remix featuring Selena Gomez, which catapulted it to international fame. It charted in the UK Official Singles Chart, reaching No. 5, and on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 19.

Having sold over 600,000 units in the UK, ‘Calm Down’ is now eligible for a British Phonographic Industry platinum plaque. It has already earned an RIAA platinum plaque in the US for surpassing one million units in sales.

This achievement marks Rema’s first platinum single in the UK, putting him in the company of CKay, Wizkid, and Burna Boy as lead artists with BPI platinum plaques.
