Scotland’s Scot McTominay played a key role in his team’s 2-0 victory over Spain in their Euro 2024 qualification campaign on Tuesday.
The Manchester United midfielder earned himself a new nickname, McTerminator, after securing two wins out of two for Scotland in this international break.
McTominay scored twice against Cyprus last week and helped Scotland outplay the Spanish national team, which is ranked 10th in the world.
Bruno Fernandes and other Manchester United players and prospects praised McTominay on social media following his impressive performance against Spain.
Fernandes posted a video on social media along with the caption:
“What a player, McTerminator @scottmctominay [clap emoji].”
The midfielder himself praised his nation for their clinical play and tactics that helped them defeat their more fancied opponents.
“We knew they’d have lots of the ball, and the manager said be clinical when we had the opportunities.” He said as quoted on Express Sport.
McTominay will now hope that his performances are enough to convince his club manager, Erik Ten Hag, to continue selecting him.
Manchester United will face Newcastle United in their next Premier League game. The Red Devils are currently in third place and will be looking to continue their good form against a tricky opponent.
