Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State declared cultism an act of terrorism in the state during a stakeholder’s security meeting at the Akarigbo’s Palace in Sagamu on Friday, May 5.
He issued a warning to all cult members, their parents, landlords, and sponsors that the authorities would consider their activities as sabotage to the state’s economy and treat them as terrorism.
The governor instructed law enforcement agencies to smoke out the cult members and vowed to continue collaborating with royal majesties and highnesses to bring lasting peace to the local government.
Reports showed a prevalence of cult activities in different areas of the state, resulting in clashes and killings of innocent people.
The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, also spoke against the violence and called for parents and guardians to talk to their children to overcome the trying times.
