According to Guinness World Records, The Weeknd is now officially the most popular artist in the world.
The organization’s data shows that he has broken two new records on Spotify, one for having the most monthly listeners in Spotify history, with over 111 million, and another for being the first artist to exceed 100 million monthly listeners.
The Weeknd has also joined Michael Jackson as the only artist with multiple number-one songs from three of his albums, thanks to his recently released “Die For You (Remix)” with Ariana Grande.
In addition, his 2020 track “Blinding Lights” has become the biggest song ever, achieving the most Spotify streams, and setting a new record as the longest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100, with a total of 90 weeks on the chart.
Even before receiving the Guinness World Records accolades, The Weeknd was already seen as deserving of the title by some in the industry.
Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd recently spoke to us and stated that the argument for The Weeknd’s greatness was all but solidified.
